Director of Finance

Department: Admin-Management
Location: Gilford, NH

Gunstock Mountain Resort is seeking a Director of Finance to lead all financial strategies, accounting operations, business systems, and information technology for the resort. As a key member of the Executive Team, the Finance Director drives financial planning, strengthens organizational resilience, and supports the resort’s long-term objectives and operational sustainability. This position reports directly to the President and General Manager and works closely with the Gunstock Area Commission (Board). This is an on-site position (occasional remote work as allowed).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Financial Leadership – Lead the resort’s overall financial strategy, ensuring disciplined management of resources, clear analysis of trends, and proactive planning that supports long term stability. Provide strategic guidance to the General Manager, business managers, and the Gunstock Area Commission, helping align financial decisions with organizational goals and evolving market conditions.
  • Financial Operations & Accounting Oversight – Oversee all core accounting and audit functions, maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the resort’s financial data. Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Direct internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures that protect assets and strengthen organizational accountability.
  • Budget Development & Business Collaboration – Partner with department and business managers to build detailed annual budgets, evaluate revenue drivers, and manage operational expenses with discipline and creativity. Facilitate cross department collaboration to improve financial literacy, strengthen forecasting, and optimize financial outcomes across all resort activities, programs, and visitor experiences.
  • Cash Flow, Capital Planning & Risk Management – Monitor and project cash flow needs across a complex, seasonally driven operation. Evaluate capital investment opportunities, conduct ROI analysis, prepare financing recommendations, and support long term infrastructure planning. Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Information Technology & Business Systems – Direct all IT strategy and operations, ensuring a secure, reliable, and scalable technology environment. Lead long- and short-term planning for networks, cybersecurity, hardware, software, point of sale systems, and integrated resort applications. Partner with operational teams to ensure technology enhances efficiency, guest experience, and data driven decision making.
  • Board Relations & Public Presentations – Serve as a trusted advisor to the Gunstock Area Commission by preparing clear, accurate, and accessible financial reports. Regularly present financial updates, budget proposals, capital project analyses, and business forecasts during public meetings. Ensure transparency, professionalism, and strong communication with county officials, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Organizational Leadership – Provide strong, visible leadership to the Finance and IT teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Mentor managers and staff, promote professional development, and champion a positive and productive workplace aligned with Gunstock’s values.
  • Community Engagement – Represent Gunstock within the NH ski industry and throughout the Lakes Region and maintain positive, productive relationships with local business partners, vendors, auditors, and county stakeholders.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

  • 8–10+ years of senior financial leadership, ideally in hospitality, travel, outdoor recreation, or leisure
  • Proven experience presenting to boards, public bodies, or governing entities
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational budgets and cross functional business planning
  • Expertise in accounting operations, reporting, forecasting, and internal controls
  • Experience overseeing IT strategy or technology driven operations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data for diverse audiences
  • Leadership style that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
